Tips to Help You Truly Relax in the Middle of a Busy Workday

We all have stressful days at work. The trick of coming out of them alive and well is to have strategies to fall back on.

By knowing what to do in moments where you feel overwhelmed and burned out, you’ll avoid negative consequences and you’ll learn to find peace among the chaos.

Here are a few tricks you can turn to so you can make sure you survive the most stressful workdays. If you’re feeling like giving up, take a breath and try some things on this list. I guarantee you’ll regain the strength to carry on!

Breathing Exercises

Breathing exercises are a quick and easy way to recover your bearings and to take a moment in the middle of a busy, stressful workday. Just take a deep breath, hold it, let it out, and repeat as much as you need to. Do this slowly and make yourself experience the breath. Focus on nothing but the air you inhale and exhale for a few minutes, and you’ll find yourself renewed!

Massage Yourself

Massages are relaxing and they can help you release the tension that builds up in your body. Because you’re in the middle of a workday and you can’t book a massage right away, do it yourself! Massage your shoulders, your lower back, or your head and allow yourself to relax for five minutes.

Take A Nap

If possible, taking a 20-minute power nap in the middle of a busy workday can do wonders for your mental health! You won’t only get some rest, but you’ll also have a moment to shut down and restart your day.

Take A Walk

You must take time to yourself in the middle of a busy, stressful workday. If you don’t feel you can relax in your place of work, then just step out of it. Take at least five minutes to walk around the building. Focus on your steps, your breath, and you can even have a healthy snack while you’re at it!

Read

If you need a break but you can’t step out, then take a moment to read. Focus on an influential book for a moment; it doesn’t matter if it’s only 10 minutes, but just allow yourself to get lost in a story for a moment. This will shift your focus and allow you to have some downtime.

Take A Day Off

If you’ve had a stressful week, or a month, you must take care of yourself. Take a day off and completely detach yourself from work. Go outdoors if you can! Take a trip to the beach or the mountains, or walk around the city. Just make sure you completely detach yourself from work-related issues and enjoy the day however you see fit. Go out with friends, have a few drinks, indulge in nutritious food, have sex, read an excellent book, take a long bath; just make happiness the theme of the day.
